Arizona Dad Arrested for Allowing 10-Year-Old Son to Drive, Faces Serious Charges

In a surprising incident that unfolded in Phoenix, an Arizona father found himself in handcuffs after being discovered in the passenger seat of a vehicle driven by his own 10-year-old son.

The 49-year-old man, Alvaro Ovando Alvarez, now faces a slew of charges, including aggravated DUI, child abuse, endangerment, possession of an open container of alcohol, and unlawfully permitting a minor to drive, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix.

According to officials from the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the young boy – who is not facing any legal consequences – was seen speeding in a red pickup truck along Arizona State Route 101 on a Saturday afternoon.

An alert trooper responded to a call regarding the truck’s erratic behavior shortly before 3:40 p.m. The trooper noticed the vehicle repeatedly changing lanes in an unsafe manner, in violation of traffic laws.

The pursuit of the speeding truck began at 3:44 p.m. and concluded just three minutes later.

“At approximately 3:47 p.m., the driver pulled over in the right emergency lane near milepost 26, right before the 7th Street off-ramp,” said DPS spokesperson Raul Garcia in a statement to Fox News Digital.

Alvarez, who had been riding in the passenger seat, was swiftly apprehended and taken into custody. He was subsequently booked into the 4th Avenue Jail in Phoenix.

As the case continues to unfold, further details about the incident remain undisclosed at this time.
