Alex Jones criticized for spending $93K in July as Sandy Hook families owed $1.5B have yet to see a dime

Alex Jones’ Lavish Lifestyle Clashes with Sandy Hook Settlement

Infowars founder Alex Jones, who was ordered by a Connecticut judge to pay nearly $1.5 billion to families of victims of the December 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, is living large despite the outstanding debt. Jones, known for peddling conspiracy theories, has reportedly spent over $93,000 in July, leaving the grieving families empty-handed.

Last year, a jury ruled on Oct. 12, 2022, that Jones and his company, Free Speech Systems, must compensate the families of the Sandy Hook victims. The tragedy claimed the lives of six adults and 20 children, along with an FBI agent. Jones falsely claimed on his show that the shooting was a hoax, alleging that the victims were actors used to push for stricter gun control laws.

Despite Jones’ appeals for financial support from his audience, monthly financial filings reveal a starkly different picture.

Financial Details Raise Eyebrows

According to these documents, Jones boasts a net worth of approximately $14 million. In July alone, he splurged over $93,000, including hefty sums spent on dining and entertainment.

Attorney Christopher Mattei, representing the Sandy Hook victims’ families, expressed concern over Jones’ extravagant spending habits, emphasizing that the money rightfully belongs to those he tormented for years. He vowed to continue legal action to secure the $1.5 billion awarded in last year’s lawsuits.

To curb Jones’ excessive spending, lawyers for the victims’ families warned on Aug. 29 that if he fails to limit his expenses to a “reasonable” level, they will seek intervention from the bankruptcy judge. Options include appointing a trustee to oversee his spending, preventing further depletion of estate assets, or even dismissing the bankruptcy case altogether.

Jones Defends His Choices

Jones, however, remains unapologetic on his show, asserting that he is not in the wrong. He defended his preference for upscale dining and a few luxurious vacations, claiming to have “earned” these indulgences “in this fight.” Alongside this, he continued to solicit donations for his mounting legal expenses.

Financial Breakdown

In July, Jones’ spending surged compared to April, totaling nearly $93,000. Notable expenditures included $15,000 paid to his wife, Erika Wulff Jones, as per a prenuptial agreement. He also allocated $7,900 for housekeeping, $6,300 for meals and entertainment (excluding groceries), and an additional $5,600 for his vehicles and boats.

Jones filed for bankruptcy in December 2022, further delaying payments to the victim’s families pending a federal bankruptcy court ruling on his ability to meet his creditors’ demands.

Complicating matters, Jones’ finances are intricate due to his multiple companies and corporate affiliations, making it challenging for the families’ lawyers to track his assets.

Seeking a Bigger Payday

Despite his mounting financial woes, Jones is pursuing a significant pay increase through court approval. He aims to secure a contract that would pay him $1.5 million annually, in addition to incentive bonuses, nearly tripling his current $520,000-a-year salary. If granted, he anticipates having approximately $300,000 per year after settling legal bills.

Financial documents, filed by Jones and his legal team, estimate his net worth at around $14 million. His assets include a $2.6 million home, a $2.2 million ranch, a $1.8 million lakefront property, a $500,000 rental property, and assets worth $330,000, comprising four vehicles and two boats.

The families of the Sandy Hook victims continue to seek justice and the restitution they were promised in the wake of this tragic event.
