Aerosmith’s Farewell Tour Hits Pause Due to Steven Tyler’s Vocal Cord Injury
Aerosmith, the legendary rock band, is taking an unexpected break from their farewell tour. The reason? Lead singer Steven Tyler suffered damage to his vocal cords. Tyler, at 75 years old, announced this unfortunate news via the band’s Instagram on Monday, September 11.
In a heartfelt statement, Tyler expressed his disappointment, saying, “I’m heartbroken to say I have received strict doctor’s orders not to sing for the next thirty days. I sustained vocal cord damage during Saturday’s show that led to subsequent bleeding. We’ll need to postpone a few dates so that we can come back and give you the performance you deserve.”
The affected shows in Detroit, Chicago, Washington D.C., Toronto, Raleigh, and Cleveland are now rescheduled for late January and February. Fans who already purchased tickets can breathe a sigh of relief as those tickets will be honored for the new dates. Refunds are also available for those unable to attend, and fans with refund-related questions can contact their point of purchase.
Aerosmith commenced their farewell tour, titled “Peace Out: The Farewell Tour,” with a bang on September 2 at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center. Fortunately, after this hiatus, the band plans to return to the stage on October 11 at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. The tour is slated to continue across the United States and Canada, extending all the way into February 2024.
This unfortunate vocal cord injury comes during a year of personal challenges for Steven Tyler. In December 2022, he faced a lawsuit from Julia Misley, alleging sexual assault from the 1970s and claiming Tyler persuaded her to undergo an abortion when she became pregnant as a teenager. Tyler, however, has denied these accusations, asserting that his relationship with Misley was consensual. He also argued that he had qualified immunity due to being Misley’s one-time legal guardian and requested the lawsuit’s dismissal, asserting that Misley “has not suffered any injury or damage.”
While the music industry is thriving, with new releases expected this fall, other artists have also faced setbacks. Notably, Guns ‘N Roses postponed a show due to health issues within the band, and Bruce Springsteen had to delay performances due to peptic ulcer disease. Paramore also rescheduled shows because of lead singer Hayley Williams’ ongoing lung infection.
In a different vein, Ed Sheeran had to cancel a Las Vegas concert just an hour before it was scheduled to begin due to unforeseen challenges during the event setup. He expressed his regret and rescheduled the gig for Saturday, October 28th, reassuring fans that their purchased tickets would remain valid.
The music world may have its ups and downs, but Aerosmith’s fans are eagerly anticipating their return to the stage, and Tyler’s vocal cords healing up.
