Tricky Tactic: Deputy’s Doggie Deception Nabs Teen Car Thieves
In a clever twist during a car chase in Washington State, a deputy employed an unexpected maneuver to outfox a group of suspected teenage car thieves. Last month, a daring deputy barked like a police dog to trick the suspects into giving up their escape.
On the morning of August 18, just before 8:30 a.m., deputies rushed to a report of a stolen vehicle near a cemetery on Chambers Creek Way in University Place. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department swiftly sprung into action.
With keen tactics at play, one deputy strategically placed stop sticks, awaiting the stolen car’s arrival. When the vehicle hit the trap, all four tires were punctured, yet the tenacious suspects kept driving, forcing deputies to temporarily halt the pursuit.
The stolen car was eventually found, abandoned but still running, along Bridgeport Way. Deputies encircled the area, launching a search for the teens responsible.
In a surprising twist, a deputy located the group in a wooded section near a creek bed. A snippet of bodycam footage captured the scene.
Using an unexpected and hilarious tactic, one deputy started barking just like a police K-9. The intention? To lull the suspects out of hiding and into surrendering to the authorities.
“Stop, police! Don’t make us release our K-9!” the deputy urgently shouted, followed by the unmistakable sound of dog-like barking.
Repeated dog impressions from the deputy finally prompted the four youngsters to emerge from their creek bed hideout and give in to the deputies’ commands.
Sgt. Darren Moss Jr. explained that the teens were fully convinced there was an actual dog present, leading them to quickly give up. In a video shared on the department’s Facebook page, Moss praised the deputies for their imaginative approach, awarding them an “A+” for their creativity.
The video wraps up with the deputies taking the surrendered teens into custody. However, pertinent details about the teens’ identities and potential charges remain undisclosed at this time. The canine-inspired ploy demonstrated the power of inventive tactics in law enforcement, leaving the community and netizens alike with an amusing tale of justice served in a canine way.
