A 61-year-old man is missing after a fishing trip on Lake Michigan. His name is David Split, and he was last seen on Tuesday. Here’s what we know so far.
Disappearance
David Split went fishing in Lake Michigan, but he never made it back. He was reported missing at 8 p.m. on Tuesday. He left from Spring Lake, Michigan, in a 29-foot boat called “A & A.”
Last Location
The last signal from his cellphone came from a spot about six miles away from Holland, Michigan. David Split liked to fish near the mouth of the Grand River and a bit out into the lake.
Search Efforts
The U.S. Coast Guard, along with local law enforcement, is searching for him. They’ve deployed vessels and aircraft to help with the search. His boat was found empty, floating about 30 nautical miles west of Grand Haven.
Extensive Search Area
The search area extends along the lakeshore from Holland to Grand Haven, covering about 22 miles of the lake.
