Nine Escaped Juveniles Captured After Pennsylvania Detention Facility Riot

In a swift turn of events, all nine juveniles who had escaped during a recent riot at a Pennsylvania detention facility have been successfully apprehended, as announced by state police on Monday morning.

“We’re in the process of interviewing all nine of them,” stated Pennsylvania State Police Trooper David Beohm during a news conference. He also mentioned that plans are underway to determine the next steps for the captured individuals.

This update follows an earlier announcement on Twitter by the Pennsylvania State Police that four of the nine escapees had already been taken into custody.

The incident occurred when the group of juveniles managed to escape from the Abraxas Academy at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Sunday during a violent disturbance.

Swift Action by Authorities

Trooper Beohm disclosed that the first four individuals were apprehended shortly before 6 a.m. on Oak Grove Road. State and local law enforcement were called in late Sunday to regain control of the juvenile center, which is situated in Morgantown, about 49 miles northwest of Philadelphia, after the riot had erupted within the facility, as previously reported by the Caernarvon Township Police Department.

About Abraxas Academy

Abraxas Academy is a secure residential treatment program designed to provide specialized care for male youth aged 14 to 18, particularly those in the 9th grade or above, who have been involved in delinquent activities. Their mission is to address the unique needs of these individuals.

This incident took place shortly after the capture of Danelo Cavalcante, a convicted murderer who had managed to escape from prison and evade Pennsylvania authorities for nearly two weeks despite an extensive manhunt. Cavalcante had escaped from the Chester County Jail on August 31st, a daring feat that involved scaling a wall topped with razor wire and jumping from the roof.

Cavalcante’s Criminal History

Danelo Cavalcante, who had fled Brazil in 2018 following an alleged fatal shooting over a financial dispute, was sentenced to life in prison in the U.S. in 2021 for the murder of his girlfriend. His capture marked the end of a high-profile case that had garnered significant attention.

In summary, all nine juveniles who had escaped during the riot at the Pennsylvania detention facility have been apprehended, with authorities continuing their investigations. This incident followed closely on the heels of the dramatic capture of Danelo Cavalcante, a convicted murderer who had managed to evade authorities for a significant period.
