3 teenagers dead in Maryland following fiery crash involving stolen SUV

Tragic Crash Claims Lives of Three Teenagers in Stolen SUV

In a devastating incident, three teenagers, aged 14 and 15, lost their lives in a fiery crash involving a stolen SUV. The incident unfolded during an attempted traffic stop in Maryland, as reported by the police on Monday.

The young driver behind the wheel was identified as Marquay Swann, just 14 years old, hailing from Lanham. Two passengers, Zyshaun Cuffey, 15, from Glenarden, and Serenity Sellman, 15, from Upper Marlboro, were also aboard the ill-fated vehicle. As for the fourth person involved, their identity is yet to be confirmed by the medical examiner’s office, according to the police.

It all began on September 29 when police officers noticed a Kia Sorento with expired temporary tags. They attempted to pull the vehicle over, but things took a tragic turn.

The police account reveals that officers briefly tried to follow the Kia but eventually lost sight of it and decided to disengage.

Around four minutes later, an independent witness reported that the Kia’s driver tried to overtake using the shoulder of the road, lost control, and collided with a tree in Mitchellville.

The incident led to a heartbreaking outcome, with the three teenagers losing their lives. The crash site was more than two miles away from the initial traffic stop attempt.

In an evaluation by the Maryland attorney general’s office, it was determined that this tragic incident did not fall under the category of an officer-involved fatality. To make matters even more distressing, investigators later uncovered that the stolen vehicle had been involved in an armed carjacking in Greenbelt.

This heart-wrenching event serves as a reminder of the importance of safe driving and responsible actions on the road.
